Assanali Ashimov

Assanali Ashimov, National Artist of the USSR, Laureate of the State Prize of Kazakh SSR, winner of Tarlan independent award, Chevalier of the Otan Order, holder of Kurmet Order. He was born in 1937 in the village of Saudakent, Sarysu district, Zhambyl region. In 1961 he graduated from the theater department of the Kazakh State Conservatory named after Kurmangazy, majoring in drama theater acting and was accepted as an actor to Kazakhfilm studio. In 1964 he was invited to acting troupe of the Kazakh State Academic Theater named after Auezov. Images he created in various style performances became bright milestones of his work.These are: Kerim in Abay, the tragedy by M. Auezov, Kebek in Enlik-Kebek tragedy, Aishuak in Kara Kypshak Kobylandy, the role of Zharasbai in Morning Echo, Kodar in Kozy Korpesh – Bayan Sulu by G. Mussrepov, Iosif Tatevich in Climbing Fujiyama by K. Mukhamedzhanov and C. Aitmatov, Julius Caesar in Julius Caesar by Shakespeare, Don Juan in Don Juan or Love to Geometry by M. Frish, Yelaman in Blood and Sweat drama by A. Nurpeissov, the main character in Apat, the play by I. Vovnyanko and others. The important and significant role of Ashimov on stage of the theater is Dr. Clausen in Before Sunset by Hauptmann. More than 100 successful performances have been on stage since its launch. The master of scenic art invested his talent and work into development of Kazakh cinema. Kaymen in Song Wings, Bekezhan in Kyz Zhibek, Shadiyarov, Kassymkhanov in The End of Ataman trilogy, Transsiberian Express, Karazhal in Rushing Messengers, Director in Taste of Bread, old man Umirbay in I will kill you, uncle, Mr. Ka in Who are you, Mr. Ka?, as well as Genghis Khan in Ancient Bulgars Saga, saga by B. Manssurov, and other roles – special and all very different. An outstanding actor starred in more than thirty films. Along with acting he also proceeded on to directing. His performances staged at Auezov Theater should be also noted. They are: Amangeldy by G. Mussrepov, Is there a poison I didn’t have by I. Orazbayev, Akbilek by Z. Aimauytova, Inspector by Gogol, Farhad-Shyryn by N. Hikmet. There are also performances staged in other theaters of the republic and films made in Kazakhfilm studio. Among them are: The Dragon’s Year (1981), Shokhan Ualihanov (1985), Wormwood (1986), Kozy Korpesh - Bayan Sulu (1992) and Salt Lake House. He is one of the organizers of Stars of Shaken, the international film festival and Honorary Chairman, jury member of many foreign international film festivals. Mr. Ashymov is the author of Myra’s Song book (1995), Five volume collection of works (2007), With love, yours Assanali Ashimov (2008). The enormous contribution that the outstanding actor introduced into the national art is highly appreciated. He received the State Prize of the Kazakh SSR for the role of Shadiyarov in The End of Ataman film (1973), for the image of Yelaman in Blood and Sweat production (by A. Nurpeisov, director A. Mambetov), the State Prize of the USSR (1974), National Artist of Kazakhstan (1976), National Artist of the USSR (1980). He was awarded with Tarlan Independent Prize (2000) for the significant contribution to the development of cinema. He is a holder of the Otan (2001), Kurmet (2007) and Parassat (2007) Orders, winner of the Honored Art Worker medal (2012), was awarded the Dostyk Order (2014).
